Water Asia's New Battleground, published in 2011, is Brahma Chellaney’s pioneering work on the link between the growing water stress in the world and long-term peace and security. The battles fought decades ago were fought over the issues of land. However, the ones that need to be dealt today are over the issues of energy. Now, the worst part is that the battles of tomorrow might be over water. And, the danger is greatest in a water-distressed Asia. This unique book presents a broader picture of water resources across Asia. The author highlights the security implications of resource-linked territorial disputes. He also presents some real strategies to avoid conflict and to more justifiably use Asia's water. This book is a study of water and peace as it examines Asia in its totality. The author has intended to write an interdisciplinary study for policymakers, scholars, serving officers, educated general public, and upper-level students. The materials blended in this book range from geopolitics, hydrology, and sustainable science to environmental studies and international laws. Various case studies on different countries have been described in this book for further clarification and better understanding. Taking Asia as an example, the author clearly indicates that what Asia confronts today is the situation other countries are likely to face in the coming days. Brahma Chellaney, born in Delhi, is a Professor of Strategic Studies at Policy Research, a member of the Board of Governors of the National Book Trust of India, an independent think-tank, and an affiliate with the International Centre for the Study of Radicalization at King’s College London. One of his popular book is Asian Juggernaut: The Rise of China, India and Japan published by Harper Collins, which has been translated into several languages. He also writes research papers for leading magazines. He is known as a reputed strategic thinker and analyst. Moreover, he is also famous for being a newspaper and television commentator on international affairs.
