This book provides comprehensive, practical guidance on personnel law and practice at a time when employers are faced with a maze of legislation, obligations and potential penalties. It aims at providing detailed and practical advice on what to do and how to do it, and offers a blue-print for putting in place a personnel service that will be suitable for even the smallest business, at the lowest cost of both time and money. The book will be especially valuable to those who have to cope with the challenges of personnel law as just one part of their job. The A to Z format ensures that sections appear under individual headings for instant ease of reference. Each subject is covered individually and also cross-referenced to related topics, and the style is straightforward and user friendly. The emphasis is not so much on the law as on its implications; the advice is expert, clear and practical, with a minimum of legal reference. Checklists, procedures and examples are all given, as well as warnings on specific pitfalls. A number of brief case studies explaining the decision in tribunal cases give added valuable insight into the law in practice. Everyone involved in the personnel function at whatever level will find The A to Z of Employment Practice valuable as both a working tool, and source of reference.
