The book provides an introduction to architecture, concepts and algorithms of the Linux kernel. The huge size of the kernel sources and the large number of connections between the numerous subsystems require providing clear guidance to the reader. Code flow diagrams are extensively employed to visualize the program logic and code paths in a clear and concise manner - the book contains more than 230 figures. To keep close contact withthe sources, the most important parts are discussed line by line. Great care is taken to ensure that code doesn’t take too much space, because we don’t simply want to be a listing of the Linux source code as some other books are. About The Author Wolfgang Mauerer is co-founder of the German company MyNetix that sell Linux-based networking and computing solutions. He also provides consulting services to corporations on Linux kernel and Linux security. Wolfgang has been involved with the Linux kernel for a decade writing articles on Linux kernel internals for German magazines and eventually writing a book on Unix text processing with LaTex and eventually the German version of Linux Kernel Architecture. He has worked as a system programmer and network administrator and created several commercial network applications. He holds a Masters in physics and works as a researcher at the Max Planck research group for optics, information, and photonics.
