  • Description

Biological diversity is the variability of life forms on the earth. India is one of the 12 megadiverse countries of the world and is a signatory of the CBD convention held at Rio de Janeiro way back in 1992. The two hot spots of India, Western Ghats and Eastern Himalaya are paradises of valuable genes. It is a vital resource which provides a wide range of benefits to the mankind. Unfortunately this life supporting system is depleting at an alarming rate due to several factors of which man and his anthropogenic associates are playing the key role. A number of taxa have been lost and quite a substantial number of species are facing threat to their survival in nature. The loss of this natural heritage cannot be ignored.\nRealizing the importance and need of biodiversity conservation, the botany department of M.L.V. Government College, Bhilwara has organized a two days National Conference on “Biodiversity Conservation: Causes, Consequences and Solutions” on 28 - 29 September, 2012 with the objectives to have expert opinions and to discuss the contemporary developments on this subject.\nThe conference aims at addressing the various issues related to this diversity by providing a platform to researchers, government agencies, NGO’s, industries, academicians and students to interact and share knowledge for better promotion, utilization and to ensure persistence of biodiversity.
