This text-book published in continuation of its Vol. I. This volume discusses the theory and analysis of structures in comprehensive and lucid manner. This book is written by an eminent author who had an experience of over thirty years in the teaching of the subject, and now, it is revised and enlarged by the experienced teacher. The book withing its 21 chapters now contains more than: 400 Fully solved problems 440 Examples with answers 640 Neatly drawn diagrams It is published entirely in SI Units. It is hoped that this edition will prove extremely useful to the students of Civil, Mechanical and Architecture Engineering reading for Degree Examinations conducted by various Boards of Technical Examinations, also Certificate Courses, as well as for the A.M.I.E., U.P.S.C., G.A.T.E., I.E.S. and other similar competitive and professional Examinations. It should also prove of great interest and practical use to the practising engineers. About The Author Principal S. B. Junnarkar lived a little longer than the Biblical span of four score years, dedicated to the cause of learning, education and culture. In a world of falling standards this man stood out like a beacon guiding generations of young students. As a student he was exceptionally brilliant. After matriculating from Alfred High School, Rajkot – incidentally the school where Mahatma Gandhi studied – and graduating with First Class Hons. from Elphinston College, Bomaby, he proceeded to the U.K. and topped the list at the B.Sc. (Engg.) from King's College, University of London. For a young man of his intellectual ability and background there was no dearth of opportunities. But he was very inch a teacher, and turned his back on many an alluring position including Vice-Chancellorship in a couple of Universities. After a brief sting with the Port Trust, Bombay in 1993 he joined N.E.D. Engineering College, Karachi as Vice-Principal and rose to the helm, guiding the destiny of that College until th tragedy of the county's partition brought him to Vallabh Vidyanagar to join the pioneers in a great experiment of rural reconstruction through higher education. 'Kaka' as he was dearly known to all, presided over the founding of Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya (Engineering College) and helped grow into a premier institution with rich academic tradition. Principal SBJ and BVM became synonymous. He served sometime as a Dean of the Faculty of Technology and Engineering, M.S. University of Baroda. He was a perfect gentleman and combined in himself strength and tenderness, pragmatism and spiritual fervour in a unique way. He ruled the minds and hearts of his students an collegues in a way very few teachers ever did. He could range from the most intricate problems of engineering and administration to Tagore and Shakespeare and Ramakrishna with ease. He lives today in his books, which come to us like a lover's gift. For, it was in response to his studetns' requests that he agreed to translate into books some of the inspiring moments of the class-room where this great teacher spelt sweetness and light. These books are only faint echoes of that rich voice is now still. Table Of Contents Chapter 1: Influence Lines for Beams Chapter 2: Rolling Loads Chapter 3: Influence Lines for Trusses Chapter 4: Masonry Dams and Retailing Walls Chapter 5: Cables and Suspension Bridges Chapter 6: Three Hinged Arches Chapter 7: Forces in Framed Structures Chapter 8: Indeterminate Structures Chapter 9: Deflections I Chapter 10: Deflections II Chapter 11: Consistent Deformation I Chapter 12: Consistent Deformation II Chapter 13: Least Work and Theorem of Three Moment Chapter 14: Indeterminate Arches Chapter 15: Slope Deflection Method Chapter 16: Moment Distribution Method Chapter 17: Column Analogy Method Chapter 18: The Elastic Centre Chapter 19: The Reciprocal Theorem Chapter 20: Plastic Theory Chapter 21: Introduction to Matrix Methods of Analysis Index
