Description
Geomorphology is a significant branch of physical Geography. It is concerned with the study of Landforms which is essential to geography and geology. It also interacts with other disciplines at several points. The present book ‘Introduction to Geomorphology’ is based on nine chapters and documented with seventeen neatly drawn maps. The introductory chapter exposes the main theme of the book. A systematic account of geology is given in the first chapter. Chapter second provides a comprehensive account of the climatic conditions and soils. Next chapter deals with the fluvial geomorphology including drainage density and stream frequency. Analyses of relief and slope forming elements have been examined in the fourth chapter. Chapter fifth encompasses the study of geomorphic regions. The demographic attributes, its density, distribution and the impact of landforms on its regional patterns have been convincingly discussed in the sixth chapter. The spatial distribution of settlements, their types, concentration and patterns have been given in the seventh chapter, while chapter eight is the most interesting part of the study in which nine sample settlements have been selected for an in depth study. These nine villages are the representative of the various geomorphic regions. The last chapter gives a summary of the study followed with some useful suggestions. Thus, the book has established a guideline for the researchers, planners and policy makers for regional development. This book also gives sufficient reading material for the students of undergraduate, post-graduate classes of geography and research scholars. Lastly, the book is unique in the field of applied geomorphology.
