Ever since the introduction of wildlife in the academic curriculum of veterinary science, there has been an avid interest about the wildlife among the student community. Simultaneously, it has exp\anded the horizon of employment have been restricted their activites to the health care of wild and zoo animals, the need of the hour, however, is to expand their involvements in ohter branches of wildlife scinece. In fact, they should play a cohesive role in the gamut of wildlife including wildlife biology, conservation and man-animal conflict. Therefore, there is a need of through understanding of the subject in the present perpetives. However, lokking at the science wildlife so vast and varied in nature, it is a herculean task for an author to incorporate entire aspect within limited pages of a book. Therefore, an effort has been made to incorpoarte the information on wildlife in such a way so that it serves the purpose of wide readership. This book is an out come of more than ten years rigorous work on collection of information on wildlife. The different chapters have been carefully selected in order to meet the requirement of graduate students of Indian universities. About the Author Ajit Kumar Santra, an Association Professor in the department in animal produciotn and management, Indira Gandhi Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Chhattisgarh, has fourteen years of experience in the teaching, research and extension. After post graduate stude from National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal, the author joined in AFPRO (Action for food Production), a New Delhi based non-government organization as Livestock Speiclist and worked for five years. He travelled almost every part of the country and latterr on he was deputed on a Technical programme organized by an UK based organization Intermediate Techonolgy Development Group (ITDG) at Nairobi, Kenya for a short period during 1992. The author joined the West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences for pursuing his Doctoral Program on the topic "Stuides on elephant (Elephas maximus) movement in South West Bengal and its impact." As a recognition of the present work the West Bengal University of Animal and Fieshery Sciences has been selected by the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India as one of the nodal institutes for further research on the subject. The author is taught wildlife science both in undergraduate and postgraduate level in teh college of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry. He had undergone a three moths certificate course in Wildlife Management conducted by wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun. The author has a number of publications both in national and international journals.
