Essential English is a coursebook for undergraduate students. It provides students with adequate and challenging material to practise and work on their English skills through a variety of exercises in listening, speaking, reading and writing. The book also addresses the communicative needs of students by providing useful tips and exercises on topics such as presentations, seminars, conferences, group discussions, public speaking, interviews and rxC3;xA9;sumxC3;xA9; writing. The Reading for Enrichment section includes carefully chosen passages that are relevant to the lives and interests of young people today. The passages are followed by comprehension, vocabulary and grammar exercises, which are based on the text. Essential English has been written in a simple and comprehensible style, suitable to the needs of the Indian student.

Dr E. Suresh Kumar is Professor and Head, Department of English, University College of Engineering, Osmania University, Hyderabad, and Director, Centre for English Language Training, Osmania University, Hyderabad. He has authored several books on English language teaching and has guided many PhD scholars in their research. He is currently working on a project aimed at improving the communication skills of school students. Dr P. Sreehari works as Assistant Professor of English at Al-Jabal Al-Gharbi University, Zawia, Libya. He has taught English in prestigious institutions in India and abroad and has published several books on English language teaching. Dr J. Savithri works as Assistant Professor at the Department of English, Osmania University, Hyderabad. She has published several books on English language teaching.
