This book outcome of Author's teaching experience of the subject in Engineering and other Professional Courses. It was realized that for the students the Complete Book be divided in volumes so that they may feel light. The complete book will be useful for the libraries. The present Volume-I, meets requirements of Engineering Students for their First Semester. It includes Fundamental Concepts, Illustrative Examples and Application to various problems. The illustrative examples have been selected carefully on each topic and sufficient number of unsolved questions is provided which aims at sharpening the skill of students. Care has been taken to include all questions which we generally asked in the examination of the course. The book covers the Syllabus Judiciously. Efforts have been made to the treatment simple so that the student not feels difficulty in understanding the Basic Concepts.

G.C. Sharma received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Mathematics from the University of Agra. From 1962 to 1981 he taught Mathematics at Agra College where he taught various branches of Mathematics to degree and postgraduate classes. In 1981, he joined Agra University as Reader in Mathematics and continued teaching, the various branches of Mathematical Science. In 1985, he was appointedProfessor of Mathematics in the Institute of Basic Science of the University. In the start of Institute of Engineering and Technology of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University, Agra, he was assigned the responsibility of looking after the Institute. He chaired the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science for a very long period. He has authored and coauthored over 170 research papers and has written more than two dozen Textbook in Mathematics and Computer Science. He looked after vocational courses especially in the areas of Computer Application, Computer Management and Information Technology. He is a travelled Professor so far as visits to Various Universities in USA, Canada and European Countries one concerned. He is actively engaged in conducting collaborative at present. Madhu Jain received her M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D. and D.Sc. degrees in Mathematics from the University of Agra. She is a Gold Medalist of the University and recipient of Young Scientist Award of Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India and Career Award of University Grants Commission. She taught degree and postgraduate classes in 1987 at DAV (PG) College, Dehradun and I.I.T. Delhi. She joined Department of Mathematics, Institute of Basic Sciences, Khandari, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University, Agra in 1988 where she taught M.Sc., M.Phil. (Mathematics), MCA, vocational degree classes, M.Sc. (IT) and Engineering classes. At present she is Faculty in the Department of Mathematics I.I.T., Roorkee. She has authored and coauthored more than 185 research papers published in reprint journals and has written more than a dozen textbooks in Mathematics of courses and syllabi of Computer Application, Computer Management, Information Technology and Engineering Mathematics. She visited various Universities / Institute in USA, Canada, U.K., Germany, France, Netherlands and Belgium, as invited speaker in various academic assignments. She is an established scientist in her area of specialization.
