Database System Concepts, published in 2010 by Tata McGraw-Hill, is the sixth edition of the textbook on database concepts. This classic book is meant for software professionals and students with basic knowledge of computer programming, database, and computer organization. Appropriate use of latest information on the database system topics and examples enable the learners to master the topics quickly. The first few chapters introduce the reader to topics like relational model, SQL, and relational databases. Gradually, intermediate topics like database design, relational database design, application design and development, parallel and distributed databases, query processing, and data mining are introduced and explained using simple and clear language. Throughout the book, the authors have included relevant diagrams and examples to assist the learners to understand the anticipated results and concepts better. Abraham Silberschatz teaches computer science at Yale University and specializes in key concepts such as storage, network management, and distributed systems. He is credited with co-authoring several books on computer science and engineering. Some of his well-known books include Operating System Concepts, Operating System Principles, Time-Constrained Transaction Management: Real-Time Constraints in Database Transaction Systems, and Applied Operating System Concepts: Windows XP Update. Henry F. Korth holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University, and he specializes in subjects like memory database systems, XML data management, and Web-based data. Currently,he teaches computer science and engineering in Lehigh University. S. Sudarshan, one of the co-authors of the book, teaches computer science and engineering at the prestigious IIT, Bombay. He has a Ph.D degree from University of Wisconsin. He has written numerous research papers on database systems.
