Nicholas Crane's guide to the history, formation and people of our coast, now in paperback edition. In this fascinating portrait of our island, Nick Crane takes us on a journey of discovery around our coastline -- exploring why it means so much to us and why it forms such an important part of our identity. Shining cliffs from the age of the dinosaurs rise beside undulating beaches and estuaries teeming with wildlife, whilst medieval ports and Victorian resorts stand in the gaze of modern heavy industry. From Stone Age fishermen to traders, smugglers and wreckers, from surfers to sailors, cartographers and tourists, the people who have lived, worked and played on this spectacular coast have an incredible tale to tell. Crane's enthralling account sparkles with history, geography, adventure and often-eccentric characters. Told with his trademark charisma and wit, Coast: Our Island Story is the culmination of Nick's five years as a presenter of Coast.
