Author Biography
Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1936-1907) was one of the finest and most distinctive of the Victorian painters. Dutch-born, he move to London in 1870, and became famous for his technical virtuosity and for his languorous and suggestive depictions of the luxury of ancient Greece and Rome, with their carefully researched archaeological reconstructions and their mastery of light, colour and texture. Rosemary Barrow, the author of Lawrence Alma-Tadema, from which these cards are taken, is a Lecturer in Cultural and Creative Industries at Kings College London.
