  • Description

Some understanding about the nature of human rights can be gleaned from the various reasons that can be advanced for holding them. A prime concern is to offer protection from tyrannical and authoritarian calculations. Human rights abuses are monitored by United Nations committees, national institutions and governments and by many independent non-governmental organizations, such as Amnesty International, International Federation of Human Rights, Human Rights Watch, World Organization Against Torture, Freedom House, International Freedom of Expression Exchange and Anti-Slavery International. Human Rights are thus conceived in a universalist and egalitarian fashion. The book endeavors to provide all requirements of students and teachers to enable them to achieve success in social work and related activities. This book would be of great use to policymakers and planners as well as academicians who are interested to save the succeeding generations from the courage of Human Rights. Table of Contents: Introduction Historical Origins of Human Rights Human Rights and the Caste System Human Rights Movement and NGOs Human Rights Violations Laws Regarding Rights of Self-determination of Human Rights International Human Rights and its Principles Factors Affecting the Adoption of a Human Rights-based Approach Human Rights in India European Union Regional Integration and Human Rights Impact Assessments of Human Rights Women Laws in India Federal Laws and Human Resource Practices in India Social Rights and the Concept of Human Rights Women, Human Rights and Poverty Full Owners of Human Rights and Embracing Women International Human Rights Law and NGO Bibliography Index
