Wynad is a taluk (Sub District) of the Malabar area in the Indian state of Kerala, in southern India. It is bound in the South and West by the lowlands of Malabar, to the East vise the Nilgiris, to the North East lie the Mysore plains and to the North-West stretch the ghats of Coorg. Intrigued by the fascinating history and culture of this land, the author undertook to write this book while he was deputy collector to the area. The book is divided into nine chapters that give the history of the dynasties of Kottayam, the political history, the planting industry, the people of Wynad, the shrines of Wynad, its legends and anecdotes and a chapter on hunting in Wynad. This is a reprint of the 1911 edition.
